Manual Thunderbird Email Settings
Hi everyone,

Thunderbird is a very popular email client, and one we often recommend.

We're often asked how to set up your Thunderbird email settings, so here I'll provide a step by step guide that will hopefully help.

First, open Thunderbird and click the Email link:

This brings up the Welcome to Thunderbird window:

Click "Skip this and use my existing email"

This will bring up the Mail Account Setup window:

Enter the name you'd like to use, and your full email address and password that you set in your cPanel.

Then click Continue:

Thunderbird will try to detect your email settings.

We recommend you keep the default IMAP selection, which keeps your email in sync with the server.

Now click Manual config, which brings up the Manual Account Setup window:[Image: Thunderbird_5.png]
For the server settings use the details provided in your cPanel by clicking Email Accounts > Clicking the More drop down next to any of your email accounts > Configure Email Client

We strongly recommend you use the "Secure SSL/TLS Settings (Recommended)" settings.

Under Server hostname, enter the incoming server provided under Manual Settings in your cPanel
Under SSL change the default selection of STARTTLS to SSL/TLS
The Port should automatically change to 993 and Authentication to Autodetect

Under Server hostname, enter the same server as for incoming
Under SSL, again change this to SSL/TLS
The Port should automatically change to 465 and Authentication to Autodetect

Now click Re-test:[Image: Thunderbird_6.png]The Authentication boxes should now change to Normal password.

Click Done.

The window will close and you should now be good to go!

We hope that helps. If you have any questions about this in general then feel free to ask here.

For specific help with your account then just get in touch in the usual way.

All the best,
